On the 7th of February, a glacier in the Nandadevi range burst, leading to floods & landslides in the valley areas of Tapovan, Chamoli, Rudraprayag and Srinagar areas of Uttarakhand. Many villages were evacuated as floods demolished five bridges, damaged homes and the nearby NTPC (National Thermal Power Corporation) power plant, and washed away a small hydropower project near Rishiganga.
The confirmed death toll has increased to 70 while 135 persons still remain untraced. According to the Joshimath police have registered 205 missing persons reports. With countless people still trapped underneath the wreckage, National and state disaster response teams have been deployed, as have teams from the ITBP.

Rescue Operations Twelve people trapped in an under-construction tunnel have been rescued by an ITBP team. Around thirty others are trapped in a second tunnel, reportedly around 2.5 km long, and rescue teams worked through the night to save them.
Relief Operations While the rescue operations are going on, we are coordinating for the relief operations that is required immediately following the rescues. Various support is provided to different operations ranging from medical support to active, on-field volunteers supporting various operations and activities when required.
