Tamil Nadu Flood Relief Appeal
The deep depression over the Bay of Bengal have brought heavy and continuous rains devastating the State of Tamil Nadu recently. The state is battling one of the worst floods in history. Several districts are submerged leaving a trail of death and destruction. The toll in the devastating floods has reached over 190 dead. More than 2,500 villagers are badly affected and 60 % of the capital city of Chennai is under water. Thousands of families are still stranded and awaiting help across the state.

Current Work
1250 volunteers of Seva Bharati are in the relief and rescue efforts across Chennai, Cuddalore and the Northern Districts of Tiruvallur and Kancheepuram.
Rescue operations, food, medicines, candles and drinking water were the urgent requirements
Volunteers are spread into 75 flood affected areas with their relief work right from day one.
Here is a glance of the relief work
One load van relief materials were distributed at Thiruneermalai, and Maduravoyal, TB Hospital, Tambaram.Food and relief materials from Seva Bharati, Tiruppur to Cuddalore and Chennai during the second phase of relief activity. Kolathur distributed around 1500 food packets and 650 chappathis and other materials. In Anna Nagar area around 5,000 food packets had been distributed in Redhills, around 250 Narikuravas (tribals) are taken care of and food packets were distributed. In B V Colony, served food packets to 300 families. In Perambur, breakfast, lunch and dinner are served continuously to 15 affected areas around Perambur 12,500 chappathis were distributed yesterday night. In Kolathur, around 5,000 food packets were distributed. In Triplicane, food was prepared and distributed to around 2000 people. In Nesapakkam, around 600 food packets were distributed. In Otteri, food packets were distributed. In Egmore Railway Station, tea was served by Swayamsevaks to the outstation passengers who are stranded/struck there. In Thiruneermalai, food packets were distributed. Sevabharathi in co-ordination with NDRF and Armed personnel, are helping in rescue operations in Mudhichur, Mannivakkam. 2000 Food packets, nilavembu kashayam, counselling to the public was rendered to nearby 8 villages of Chromepet. Relief material and help from Vellore district to chennai:15 volunteers, including one lady, from Seva Bharathi of Vellore District left for Chennai with some relief material (the much wanted and scarce vegetables, rice, biscuits and bread, candles, matchboxes and mosquito coils) for relief work. Free medical camps were conducted at Ariyalur, Kamarajapuram of Manali, Chennai. Rice was distributed to 100 families of Kadapakkam, Manali. Seva Bharati of Tirupur Unit, Lagu Udyog Bharati extend a helping hand in serving the Cuddalore affected people by giving them the dress materials and other needed materials.
A team of allopathy and Siddha Doctors of National Medicos Organization, Arogya Bharati volunteered themselves for serving medical assistance to the flood-affected people in Chennai.
